This past weekend was the 2012 Ivan Coleman Davenport Annual Toast and Hoohah at Krause Springs in Spicewood, Texas.
Weather was as perfect as you could ask for.

Riding in to Spicewood
I rolled in with the leading elements on Thursday to secure our favorite spot.

First rule, your tent should be in the shade in the morning
On Friday Mark rode monkey and we took a ride out through Cypress Mill, Click, and Castell to Mason for gorditas at Santo Taqueria.

The route to Mason
This was a nice mix of two lane blacktops and well graded dirt – with about a half dozen creek crossings along the way. just over 200 miles round trip. We were on the road about 7 hours all told.

Mark prays before the ride
We loaded up and got onto the roads right before 8 am. Not a cloud in the sky.

Flowers!
After the drought last year (and 80-odd days over 100), we had a wet winter and it’s nice to see the wildflowers still making a show.
Click Road makes a nice loop out through the Sandy Creek drainage south of HWY71. It’s all dirt all the time – well graded – with five crossings of Sandy Creek along the way.

The Sandy Creek Algae farm
This was the longest crossing – cement – with a nice slick crop of algae – and a drop off on the downstream side. Mark un-shoed and surveyed the crossing – and off we went.

Made it!
Just kept it steady – no problems at all – except before we crossed the started crapped out – but that’s why the Ural has a kick start – one kick and we were on our way.

More flowers on County Road 308
It was too gorgeous not to stop and enjoy the quiet.

Llano County Courthouse
We made a stop at the square in Llano to check out a rock shop – right across from the county courthouse.

Santos Taqueria
We made Mason about 12:30 – Santos Taqueria is a nice spot – and I was hungry for some Gordidtas.

Gorditas
My mouth got ahead of my camera again – so slightly mauled Gorditas before we headed back down the road to Krause Springs.

Breakfast
The next morning it was hot tea and oatmeal – which the Jetboil does pretty dang well – even if it does sounds like a B-52 taking off.

Mark and Glen figure out how long we'd been drinking beers.
Then it was down to the hard work of telling lies and drinking beers.

Stan knows exactly how long.
These big old cypress trees are fed from springs running just a couple of feet away.

This guy spotted something
Plenty of squirrels running around in the mulberry we were sitting under.

Oh, that's what he spotted
And when you drink – well – it’s the circle of life – or something

Is that how long we've been drinking?
And we can count on Rob to feed us as well – out come the brats.

Brats and Beers
Not much better than sausages and tire flaps sitting out under the trees with a bunch of buddies.

Darrell and Glen pitch in - with advice
Excellent day.

fini
Excellent trip.
