Headed out to Burton, TX this weekend to eat some barbeque and take in the Burton Cotton Gin Festival – and see the Lady B – a 1925 Bessemer Semi-Diesel engine get fired up.
I ran out Old Tx 20 (no surprise there) to McDade, then cut up Knobb Springs road, and caught 696 into Lexington to stop at Snow’s for some BBQ.
Just Missed the Rush at Snow's
Snow’s is only open on Saturdays – so the rush here is about 9:30 – by 11 they’re pretty much cleaned out. I pulled in about 10:15 – not a bad line, and found a table with a couple of guys who’d ridden from down from Dallas.
A hunk of brisket, a couple ribs, and some pork shoulder - breakfast of champions.
They do a good brisket here.

Dan and Stephanie and Bill drove out and we met up at Snow’s -after Snow’s we headed 17 miles down the road to Giddings Meat Market – more my style –

Excellent brisket here – and enough smoke in the air to make you believe you’re in heaven.

That big bottle there has BBQ sauce in it – not vinegar.
We ran out to Burton after that. They have a historic cotton gin and museum there, and every year they fire up the gin engine and operate the gin – and actually gin cotton. It’s pretty neat. They also have an engine and tractor show, tractor pull, a dance, foods on sticks, etc – all the usual stuff. But the reason I came was to see them fire yo the Lady B.
